Pilates Training for Post-natal clients

“I have a new client that just recently had a baby-I think a month or so ago (I need to find out exactly how long ago-I haven’t met with her yet). Also, I need to find out if she had a c-section or natural childbirth. Can you advise anything that I “Should” focus on and should “Avoid” for anyone post pregnancy as well as specific to a c-section versus natural child birth…Also, can you recommend a good book for me to read for during pregnancy and post pregnancy?”

Assuming she is new to pilates she needs to focus on fundamentals and pelvis stabiiity. If there was a c-section, she needs 8 to 12 weeks (some doctors may allow sooner) Please get doctors okay before beginning. She will need pelvic floor work as well. Avoid on her belly to start and careful with legs in straps as there still may be some flexibillity in the pelvis. Stabilize first then mobilize. Pilates for Dummies does a good job of explaining basic movements. The first few chapters are a good way for lay people to understand the principles. Best. Yes, good books on post pregnancy. Thanks for sharing.

We recently posted an article on Postnatal health with Pilates that discusses some tips on the pelvic floor muscles, breathing and using the Pilates principals.

  2. I gave birth to 3 wonderful children, all came in less than 15 minutes, and I experienced no pain at all.

As a matter of fact it was quite joyful!
