enjoyed your responses to the nytimes article -
all makes great sense to me --
i have also been thinking about the "serape wrap" and whole core cylinder being active and in balance.

Another approach to scoliosis:
I noticed some talk about scoliosis, and I wanted to offer some sequences, techniques, developed by neuromuscular pioneer, Thomas Hanna, PhD. I am offering a workshop this Sat, May 9th, 3-5 PM at Movements Afoot, that addresses scoliosis and other issues like stiffness or chronic pain of the torso. I have had success with my own scoliosis with these techniques, and with my clients, both functionally and even structurally (as in a locked down shoulder rising up, or a hiked up hip settling down!) The most dramatic changes have been through Hanna's hands on techniques available in a private session. However, in the Hanna somatic movement workshops, many people report increased mobility, less pain, tightness, and they can continue the process at home. Happy to talk more about this resource, and answer questions, but the way to really learn it is in a group or private setting. look forward to sharing it with you!

Unfortunately there is not a lot written for the public. You might try "Moving Connections" By Peggy Hackney. Here are a series of photos on the Bartenieff Fundamentals. http://www.flickr.com/photos/movementsafoot/sets/72157600718101724/

Also Hit categories in my blog on Bartenieff Fundamentals for other info about them. BF are underlying concepts for all movement for better connections of strength and flexibiltiy.

Thank you =)

Thanks for the information! I have discovered through personal investigation, and use of compiled training techiniques from various sports (weightlifting, gymnastics/flexibility/contortion, springboard diving, dancing/ballet, track & field, volleybal, tennis, martial arts,... even training exercises for the eyes),... that PROPER BREATHING is imperative! The key is 'engaging' the all of the core muscles for controlled constriction during exhalation. This assists the diaphram, as well as improves it's 'range of motion'. Proper breathing(I think it can be called 3d) restores 'elaticity' to the diaphram, as well as strengthening/conditioning the core muscles (even the deep muscles in the hips,..iliopsoas). In combination/cooperation with various twisting and stretching movements, this (controlled constriction of core during exhalation) has improved movement, range, and vitality of my body!
