BODYMIND FITNESS

Bringing a Somatic Approach to Fitness

CONTINUING EDUCATION/SOMATIC EDUCATION
for Fitness Professionals

Conceived by Dr. Martha Eddy and Theresa Lamb
Co-directed by Dr. Martha Eddy and Lesley Powell

Enhance your fitness training through:

  • Safe Body Mechanics for the trainer
  • Exciting body/mind cueing techniques
  • Applying neuro-muscular research

Somatic Education is a growing field of research and therapies regarding human awareness. Somatic Movement uses breath, movement, sensory-motor learning, and the retraining of neural connections between the brain, physiological tissues, and psyche to deepen the body-mind connection.

BodyMind Fitness Education is a program for movement specialists to expand their skills in the rich arena of neuro-muscular retraining. This program offers the next level of education for movement educators.

We will look at how to integrate the body in movement. Understanding the biomechanics of the body will give the teacher clearer guidelines how to train. We will look how the bones move and how the muscles initiate specific movements.

Using model of Laban’s theories of how the body move 3-dimensionally in space, the importance of the balance of stability/mobility for every action, Bartenieff Fundamentals and biomechanics, we will learn how to move the body with efficiency.

We will then apply the principles of biomechanics, Laban’s and Bartenieff’s theories to our movement practices, fitness training, Pilates, yoga, dance, wellness, etc.

Learn:
Biomechanical principles of the joints
Improvising efficiency and increasing healthy functioning
Dynamic stability to improve mobility
3-dimensional understanding of the joint(s)
Practical applications to your teaching

BodyMind Fitness is newly designed as a flexible and independent training program. There are numerous courses to take but you can take them as you like through weekend workshops or summer intensives. Additional requirements include taking active BodyMind Dancing and Pilates Dancing courses if you’re in the Dance Fitness class and/or various Pilates mat and other somatic workshops if you are in the Fitness&Well-being track

Call or email Dr. Martha Eddy at 212-414-2921 or info@wellnessCKE.net if you’re interested in setting up a self-study schedule and fee structure. College credit may also available and you can apply for ACE ceu after a course.
